Reptile Presence Absence Surveys
Reotiles.png

Reptile surveys include visual searches and use of artificial refugia.

This involves involve laying artificial refugia (patches of roofing felt and other materials) out and allowing item to bed in for two weeks. The artificial refugia is then checked over at least 7 survey visits.

Surveys can be undertaken between March and September, but July and August are generally considered sub-optimal.

Surveys can only be undertaken in the correct weather conditions, when reptiles are active, but still basking. Our surveyors work with a flexible approach to ensure cold temperatures, high winds, rain and other unsuitable conditions are avoided.
