Otter surveys can be undertaken at any time of the year, but dense vegetation growth or high-water levels may limit access and visibility in some cases, therefore surveys are best undertaken in early spring and autumn when vegetation density is minimal.  

 

Otter surveys involve a site walk over, looking specifically for evidence of otters such as spraints, footprints, holts, feeding remains and entrance points into waterbodies.
